The Dia de los Muertos event was a collaboration between the HDS and the Cultura Y Bienestar programs. It took place at the Community Outreach Services Department, on Wednesday November 2nd, 2016.
People in the community were invited to a presentation featuring Ernesto Olmos, a well-known cultural artist in the Bay Area. He spoke about the meaning of el Dia de Los Muertos, as well as the cultural significance and symbolism.
Participants were able to ask questions, listen to traditional music, and learn to make their own culturally traditional decorative flowers. This event was meant to connect members of the community to traditional practices that may help them cope during grieving process, as well as connect youth to their heritage.
